Matka is an Indian name for rough handloom silk fabric constructed from extremely thick yarns spun from pierced cocoons (Mulberry silkworms ) in the weft and organzine in the warp. Many processes are involved here and yarns are spun by hand without removing the gum (sericin). As a result, there are slubs and imperfections that give the fabric its distinct character.
Matka is an Indian name for rough handloom silk fabric constructed from extremely thick yarns spun from pierced cocoons (Mulberry silkworms ) in the weft and organzine in the warp.
